SUMMARY:Give A Vet Smile Day
DESCRIPTION:This day of free dental care for veterans will be held on Saturday\, November 3 at the CVTC Dental Clinic from 8:00-4:00 \nIf you are interested in volunteering for this heart-warming event\, please email me with your intent to attend and what hours you would like to volunteer. We are currently scheduling appointments! \nI would also ask that you share this opportunity with your co-workers\, especially the dentists. Last year we treated over 60 Vets and expect more this year and many need treatment only a dentist can provide. \nThis year\, the Respiratory Therapy department will help with vital sign collection again as well as breathing assessments as needed. The Barber Cosmetology department will provide free haircuts and Prevea Health will do health assessments as well. \nIf you have questions let me know. We look forward to seeing you. It is really a great day to join together for a great cause. \nDebbie Schumacher dschumacher11@cvtc.edu

SUMMARY:October is National Dental Hygiene Month
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate National Dental Hygiene Month (NDHM) with us each October as we come together as a nation to increase public awareness about the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene. \nProudly sponsored by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) and the Wrigley Oral Healthcare Program (WOHP) all month long\, we are celebrating the hard work dental hygienists do and helping you “Start the Conversation” about the importance of good oral health and doing the “Daily 4”. Visit the ADHA website for resources to promote dental hygiene month in your office and community. \n \nThe Daily 4 represent the foundation for healthy smiles. Communicate to your patients that incorporating these steps into a regular oral health routine can have a significant impact on oral and overall health. Take this time to discuss the benefits of each step\, and remember\, proper technique is key! \n*ADHA wants to emphasize that starting the conversation is a key aspect of NDHM. Conversations about the recent news coverage of flossing and the benefits of interdental cleaning are strongly encouraged. Dental hygienists are in the ideal position to discuss interdental cleaning with patients\, recommend the interdental cleaning devices that best fit their oral health needs and educate patients to use them effectively.\n  \nSave \nSave \nSave

SUMMARY:Give Kids a Smile Day
DESCRIPTION:Since February 2003 when the Wisconsin Dental Association joined the American Dental Association in launching Give Kids A Smile®\, volunteer dentists\, dental team members\, dental and hygiene students and community advocates have provided more than $9 million in care to over 70\,500 Wisconsin youngsters. \nGKAS® children’s dental access program is held during National Children’s Dental Health Month in Wisconsin and enhances the oral health of children. Activities also highlight for policymakers the ongoing challenges that disadvantaged and children face in accessing dental care. \nWDA dentists may choose to work with community clinics\, public health departments or school nurses to identify and treat children most in need of dental care. Sometimes a local dental society organizes a large-scale GKAS® event in cooperation with a specific youth or social service organization. \nIn other Wisconsin communities\, groups of school children welcome WDA dentists into their classrooms to learn about good daily oral hygiene practices\, while other students visit private dental practices where they receive basic services such as teeth cleaning and exams at no cost to their families. \nThe WDA does not make referrals for care\, because GKAS® activities vary substantially across Wisconsin depending on local dentists’ involvement. \nhttp://www.adafoundation.org/en/give-kids-a-smile
