CLAIREMONT AVENUE ROOM HEC 117\nTuesday\, May 16 5:30-8:30\nRegistration\, Light Meal and a DH update 5:30-6:30 \nUnderstanding Oral Cancer (2CEU)\nSpeaker: Corinne Jameson-Kuehl RDH\, BS\, OMT\nSpecial Guest: Barb Hoffman-Oral Cancer Survivor \nCourse Description:\nOne person every hour dies from the disease of Oral Cancer. Due to a high instance of late stage detection; less than 50% of those diagnosed will only survive 5 years. The incidence of HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer in a “non-typical” Oral Cancer patient is on the rise; growing to an astounding 70-90% of oropharyngeal cancers being linked to the HPV infection.\nDental professionals are in a unique situation where it is imperative to educate ourselves with the evidence-based Oral Cancer risk factors and HPV prevention education measures. We need better understanding and confidence during our intra and extra oral head and neck examinations; and communication with patients.\nUpon completion of this course the learner will be able to:\n1. Identify patient risk factors associated with Head\, Neck and Oral Cancers.\n2. Recognize oral abnormalities.\n3. Implement a protocol for Head\, Neck and Oral Cancer routine examinations.\n4. SUMMARY:Give Kids a Smile Day
DESCRIPTION:Since February 2003 when the Wisconsin Dental Association joined the American Dental Association in launching Give Kids A Smile®\, volunteer dentists\, dental team members\, dental and hygiene students and community advocates have provided more than $9 million in care to over 70\,500 Wisconsin youngsters. \nGKAS® children’s dental access program is held during National Children’s Dental Health Month in Wisconsin and enhances the oral health of children. Activities also highlight for policymakers the ongoing challenges that disadvantaged and children face in accessing dental care. \nWDA dentists may choose to work with community clinics\, public health departments or school nurses to identify and treat children most in need of dental care. Sometimes a local dental society organizes a large-scale GKAS® event in cooperation with a specific youth or social service organization. \nIn other Wisconsin communities\, groups of school children welcome WDA dentists into their classrooms to learn about good daily oral hygiene practices\, while other students visit private dental practices where they receive basic services such as teeth cleaning and exams at no cost to their families. \nThe WDA does not make referrals for care\, because GKAS® activities vary substantially across Wisconsin depending on local dentists’ involvement. \nhttp://www.adafoundation.org/en/give-kids-a-smile
