Dental Hygienists: Supporting Healthy Smiles & Healthy Bodies

Committing to a leadership position within WI-DHA is a great way to network with other dental hygiene professionals, learn leadership skills, learn more about the dental hygiene profession, and become well versed in how the workings of a non-profit organization. Accepting a leadership position does take time and commitment depending on the role and current events. These positions are well supported and mentored by senior members of our Association.

President

  • Is responsible for articulating the vision, mission and goals established by the Board of Directors and serves as the official spokesperson for the Association. This role serves on several WI-DHA committees and assists other committee directors in achieving goals set forth by the WI-DHA strategic plan.
  • TERM = 1 year, following one year as President-Elect.

President Elect

  • Assists the President as a mentee to learn the President role, assists where needed, steps into the role in the absence of the president, and serves on several committees to achieve goals outlined in the WI-DHA strategic plan.
  • TERM = 1 year with ascension into the President role.

Immediate Past President

  • Mentors the president, assists where needed, serves on several committees, and steps in as President if needed.
  • TERM = 1 year, following one year as President.

Vice President

  • This is a supportive presidential role, participates on several committees, manages the Carol Benson Award, and is a liaison to the INDIGO conference chair and the Board of Directors.
  • TERM – 2 years, 2 term limits, elected in odd numbered years.

Treasurer

  • Maintains the checking and savings account for the association, manages the budget, and reimburses expense requests.
  • TERM – 2 years, 2 term limits, elected in even numbered years.

Secretary

  • Records minutes from Board of Director meetings, General Assembly, and other official meetings called by the president. Distributes agendas, minutes, and other meeting materials prior to the meetings. Also, maintains archives of WI-DHA important documents.
  • TERM – 2 years, 2 term limits, elected in odd numbered years.

Speaker of Assembly

  • Knowledge of Roberts Rules of Order and Parliamentary Procedure, WI-DHA Strategic Plan, and serves on several committees.
  • TERM – 2 years, 2 term limits, elected in even numbered years.

Component Relations Director

  • Finds two members in each of the components who will serve as the chairs to the Board and provides information to those individuals about current events and CE requirements with WI-DHA.
  • TERM = 2 years with no term limits, elected in odd numbered years.

Education Director

  • Connects and engages with the dental hygiene Program Directors and faculty to determine how WI-DHA can provide information regarding the dental hygiene profession. Keep abreast of changes and advances in the dental hygiene curriculum and CODA standards.
  • TERM = 2 years with no term limits, elected in even number years.
  • Connects and communicates with the student advisors or faculty member in each of the 8 dental hygiene programs to help provide information about the WI-DHA membership, educational and professional opportunities, and legislative efforts.

Communications Director

  • Writes, posts, and publishes press releases, social media updates, and website information as approved by the President.
  • TERM = 2 years with no term limits, elected in even numbered years.

Membership Director

  • Keeps track of and encourages dental hygienists to become members or maintain membership.
  • TERM = 2 years with no term limits, elected in odd numbered years.

Governmental Affairs Director

  • Works with allied health professionals, WI-DHA lobbyist, Wisconsin Dental Examining Board, and various oral health coalitions to determine strategy and advocate for legislation which advances the dental hygiene profession and/or improves oral health opportunities for the general public.
  • TERM = 2 years with no term limits, elected in even numbered years.

WI-DHA Delegate to ADHA HOD

  • Elected by the WI-DHA General Assembly for the following year’s ADHA Annual Session/HOD
  • TERM – one year may, 5 consecutive term limits, elected each year.
  • Responsible for attending the District VII meetings and work groups and ADHA Annual Session.
