What is Wisconsin HY-PAC?
HYPAC (Hygienists’ Political Action Committee) is a voluntary, non-profit, and unincorporated committee composed of dental hygienists and other individuals who contribute to political campaigns. It operates independently and is not affiliated with any political party, national, state, or other political committees.
The purpose of HY-PAC?
- Assist dental hygienists and others in organizing for more effective political action and fulfilling civic responsibilities.
- Encourage the endorsement of candidates whose political principles align with the goals and policies of the association.
- Raise funds through PAC fundraising efforts and donate to endorsed candidates.
- Provide volunteers to support campaign activities for endorsed candidates.
Who benefits from HY-PAC?
HYPAC benefits you by advocating for the interests of the dental hygiene profession, ensuring that candidates understand the important role dental hygienists play in the dental team and the impact the profession has on patient care. As the only state political action committee dedicated to representing dental hygiene, HYPAC works to influence policies that directly affect your career, education, and the profession’s growth.
How does HYPAC determine which candidates receive contributions?
The HYPAC committee determines which candidates receive contributions based on several criteria, including their policy positions, demonstrated leadership on issues important to the association, committee placement, and their commitment to improving access to oral health care. The committee also considers suggestions from association members regarding candidates for potential support. Additionally, the committee consults with their respective lobbyists for guidance in making these decisions.
Who oversees HY-PAC?
The WI-HYPAC Treasurer is responsible for managing donations, maintaining records, and overseeing the HYPAC checking account. The Treasurer also educates members about contributing, works with a lobbyist on donation decisions, attends training sessions, and submits regular reports to the WI Governmental Accountability Council. Additionally, the Treasurer attends Board of Directors meetings, serves on the Governmental Affairs Committee, and provides an annual report for the General Assembly. They are appointed by the President.
